What do you want to do?
Arrange and group Keynote objects without losing text focus
Option-Command-G groups selected objects in Keynote. Command-L locks them, and Option-Command-L unlocks them. Layer commands control which overlapping objects appear in front.
Steps, keys and context ↗Organize, duplicate and skip slides in Keynote
With a slide selected in Keynote’s navigator, Command-D duplicates it and Shift-Command-H toggles skipping. Tab indents selected slides; Shift-Tab brings them back.
Steps, keys and context ↗Pause a Keynote presentation with a black or white screen
While presenting in Keynote, F pauses, B pauses on black, and W pauses on white. Escape or Q ends presentation mode.
Steps, keys and context ↗Present Keynote builds and jump to a slide
Option-Command-P starts Keynote playback. Arrow keys advance or return; Shift-Right Arrow advances without animation. Typing a slide number opens the slide switcher.
Steps, keys and context ↗Control Keynote presenter notes, displays and timer
Shift-Command-P shows or hides presenter notes during Keynote playback. X switches primary and presenter displays, R resets the timer, and U or D scrolls notes.
Steps, keys and context ↗Play and inspect video during a Keynote presentation
For video during Keynote playback, Space plays, K pauses or resumes, J rewinds, and L fast-forwards. When paused, J and L can move by frame.

When a shortcut behaves differently
- Confirm you are using the Mac binding, and check whether the guide describes a desktop app or its web version.
- Put focus in the control named in the guide. Editing text, selecting an object and navigating a sidebar can use different keys.
- Look up the command in the app's menu or shortcut settings. Customized keys and non-US keyboard layouts can differ from documented defaults.
The cited documentation was checked for these guides; a documentation review is separate from testing your particular running app. How we verify and update guides →
