Pan and zoom the Figma canvas on Mac
With nothing selected, Arrow keys pan the Figma canvas and Shift-Arrow pans farther. Command-Plus and Command-Minus adjust canvas zoom. Shift-1 fits the design and Shift-2 zooms to the selection in Figma’s documented view controls.

Check whether an object is selected
Arrow keys can mean an object-level edit when a layer is selected and panning when nothing is selected. Look for the selection outline before moving. This distinction is especially important when locating a distant frame: an intended view change should not quietly become a change to the artwork’s position.
Use fit and selection views for different questions
Fit helps you regain the overall layout when you are lost on a large canvas. Zoom to selection helps inspect a specific object or group. For a detailed screen, select its frame deliberately before zooming in so the view has a clear subject rather than centering an unrelated text layer or tiny decorative element.
Return to a useful working view
On a scratch design, clear the selection and pan a short distance, then use a fit command to orient yourself. Select one known frame and zoom to it. If the whole interface becomes larger, you may have triggered browser or interface scaling instead; compare the side panels and canvas to identify which layer of zoom changed.
