Switch Slack workspaces on Mac

Command-Shift-S expands or collapses Slack’s workspace switcher on Mac. Control-Tab moves to the next workspace and Control-Shift-Tab to the previous one. Workspace number shortcuts are assigned in the desktop app’s sidebar.

Confirm the organization after switching

Channels and people can have similar names in several workspaces. After using the shortcut, check the workspace identity before opening a conversation or composing a message. A workspace switch is broader than moving between channels: the available destinations, memberships and search results belong to the workspace you selected.

Use displayed assignments rather than guessing

Slack’s desktop workspace icons reveal their assigned numbers when you hover over them. Read that assignment rather than assuming a number always means the same organization on every Mac. If you reorder or change the signed-in set, verify the mapping again. The visible assignment is a better reference than a memorized example from another user.

Handle the single-workspace case simply

If only one workspace is signed in, a workspace-switching shortcut has nowhere else to go. Use the conversation switcher for movement within that workspace. For a safe practice exercise with multiple workspaces, switch once, read the identity, and return without sending a message or joining a channel. Browser tab switching is a different control layer.
