Choose the destination before typing a message
The switcher searches conversation names, so it is useful when you already know the channel or person. Select the result and verify the header before composing. Similar names can exist in different workspaces, and a successful switch does not prove that you reached the intended audience.
Understand two different navigation orders
Sidebar traversal follows the conversations displayed there. Back and Forward follow where you have been. If a shortcut appears to skip a channel, check whether it is a history command or a sidebar command before changing settings. A muted or collapsed section can also make the visible sidebar different from your mental list.
Practice a short return route
Visit a harmless reference channel, switch to a second channel and return using history. Then compare moving one item up or down the sidebar. Keep the message field empty during the exercise so you can focus on navigation. If using Slack in a browser, check browser conflicts and the source’s desktop-only qualifications for commands outside this basic route.
