Decide whether the new object is a task or a container

A task such as Send draft belongs inside a list; a project such as Launch preparation may deserve its own list. A section divides one list into meaningful groups. Avoid creating a new list for every task just because the two shortcuts are similar. Start with the structure you need to review later, then add the individual actions that belong there.

Check the selected list before typing

Apple’s Reminders instructions emphasize selecting the list you want to add to. Look at the current list heading, especially when you have just used a smart view or followed a search result. If a feature is unavailable, account type can matter: Apple notes that the complete feature set is available with updated iCloud reminders, while other providers can have fewer capabilities.

Create a small project outline

Make a disposable list called Practice project, add a section for Preparation, and enter two harmless reminders. Inspect whether each label became a list, a section or an actionable item. If the structure is wrong, correct it through the interface before adding more tasks. Learning this distinction early is more useful than producing a long list whose hierarchy is unclear at review time.
