Choose a date that reflects the real next action
A task that can wait until next week should not be marked due today simply so it appears in a prominent view. Select the reminder and decide what the date means: a real deadline, a day you plan to work on it, or a review date. Make that meaning clear in your own system so that a large Today list remains useful rather than becoming a collection of unresolved intentions.
Inspect the assigned date after using a relative shortcut
Relative terms depend on when you invoke them. Apple specifically notes that the weekend command can assign next weekend when today is the day before the weekend. Read the resulting date rather than relying on the word weekend alone. These shortcuts assign dates; do not assume they also set the exact notification time you had in mind.
Use a sample before a scheduling pass
Create a disposable reminder, assign today, then tomorrow, and inspect the displayed dates each time. Compare next week and weekend using the same sample. If a task needs a precise hour, open its details and review that separately. Once you understand the relative-date behavior, apply it thoughtfully to a small set of real tasks instead of bulk-scheduling everything into the nearest date.
