Find, open and create Obsidian notes on Mac
Command-O opens Obsidian’s Quick switcher on Mac when enabled. Type a note name, choose a result and press Return. Command-Return opens the selection in a new tab; Shift-Return creates a note with the exact typed name even when similar results exist.

Search for a note’s identity
The Quick switcher is for finding a note by its name or alias. If you remember only a sentence inside it, vault Search is a different tool. Try part of the title and inspect the matching result before confirming. Several notes can have similar titles, particularly in a vault with repeated meeting or daily-note names.
Treat a no-match result as a creation decision
Return is not always an open-existing-file action: the switcher can create a note when no matching note exists. Read the result state first. A small spelling difference can otherwise produce a second, empty note that looks almost like the one you intended to open. Use deliberate naming when you actually want a new note.
Compare two notes without losing the first
Open a known reference through the switcher in a new tab, then inspect its title and folder. This is useful when checking a project note against a separate specification. Practice with harmless existing notes before creating anything. Excluded-file settings can affect ranking in the switcher, so a low result is not necessarily missing from the vault.
