Use Notion task checkboxes and toggles on Mac

Command-Option-4 creates a Notion to-do block on Mac and Command-Option-7 creates a toggle list. Command-Return modifies the current block, including checking a task or opening a toggle; Command-Option-T expands or closes all toggles in a toggle list.

Choose a task or a container

A checkbox represents something you intend to complete. A toggle hides or reveals supporting content. Use the structure that fits the information: a meeting agenda can contain tasks, while background reference material can sit under a toggle. Collapsing a toggle is not a way to mark its contents complete.

Check the current block before changing state

Command-Return is context-sensitive. It can operate different block types, including a page inside a page. Look at the caret or selected block before pressing it, and inspect the visible checkbox or disclosure result afterwards. A checked item can have meaning to collaborators, so do not use an important shared task as a keyboard experiment.

Practice a small task-and-reference pair

On a permitted scratch page, create a sample task and a separate toggle containing a sentence. Operate each from the keyboard and compare the different outcomes. Then test the all-toggles action on a short list. The goal is to recognize the control state, not to create a complicated task system before the basic gesture feels predictable.
