Choose the audience first
A reply to a supplier and an update to an entire project group are different messages even when they start from the same email. Select the message you mean to answer, choose the appropriate reply command, and read the new address fields. Do not assume that everyone who can see the original message needs your response or that a mailing list behaves like one individual recipient.
Use forwarding when you need a new conversation audience
Forwarding lets you address another person while including material from the selected message. Add a short introduction explaining why you are forwarding it and what you want the recipient to do. Review the included thread for information that should not be shared. A shortcut makes composition faster to reach; it does not decide whether the original sender expected the email to be passed on.
Compare three drafts without sending
Select a harmless received message and open a reply, a reply-all draft and a forward in turn. Inspect who appears in each address field and how the original text is included, then discard or close the practice drafts. This is a useful check when moving from another mail client because remembering a similar key does not tell you which audience Mail has chosen.
