- Keyboard and customization
- English-language Apple documentation. Modifier and punctuation keys may differ on other keyboard layouts.. Documented defaults, not a reading of your current menu. Check the app menu and custom App Shortcuts if a binding differs; focus and selected content can change its effect.
- Review basis
- Documentation reviewed 2026-11-05 by Codex — primary-documentation and editorial review; no hands-on runtime test. These bindings were not tested in a running app for this guide.

Build the message before reaching for Send
Begin a practice draft with a clear subject and an unmistakable recipient. Add the body, check its tone, then inspect the address fields and any files. The send shortcut is a final action, not a navigation shortcut. Treat a crowded recipient field with the same care as the message body, especially when autocomplete offers several people with similar names.
Understand the Undo Send boundary
Apple’s Mail guide describes a short delay during which Undo Send is available, with the delay adjustable in Composing settings. It is not a promise to recall a message after another mail server has delivered it. If you notice a mistake, act immediately while the control is available. Do not use an important or sensitive email to test how long that delay lasts.
Rehearse without contacting anyone accidentally
You can learn draft creation without sending at all: start a blank message, add harmless text, inspect the fields, then save or close the draft using the interface. If you choose to test sending, use an address you control and a clearly marked test subject. Check the received copy as well as the Sent mailbox; a keypress alone does not establish delivery.
