Select Excel rows, columns and regions on Mac
Shift-Space selects an Excel row on Mac and Control-Space selects a column. Command-A selects the current region or a wider sheet selection as it is repeated. macOS can reserve overlapping shortcuts, so check conflicts if a command does not reach Excel.

Select from a deliberate starting cell
The active cell gives row and column commands their context. Click or navigate to the intended data first, then inspect the highlighted header and selected range. This is particularly important when frozen panes, hidden columns or a wide sheet make the current position less obvious than it appears.
Avoid a larger selection than the task needs
A whole-column selection is convenient for some formatting tasks, but unnecessary for a small copy or edit. An explicitly addressed range can be easier to review. Before pasting or deleting, check whether the selection covers a data table, totals, notes or cells outside the visible screen. Selection itself is reversible; the following operation may alter important content.
Resolve shortcut conflicts narrowly
Control-Space can overlap with macOS input-source controls. If the system handles it, inspect the current shortcut settings or use Excel’s visible selection controls. Do not disable unrelated accessibility or language tools simply to match this guide. Practice on a disposable sheet, compare row, column and region selection, and stop before applying a destructive command to a broad range.
