Use Paste Special in Excel for Mac

Command-Control-V opens Paste Special in Excel for Mac. Copy the source range first, choose a destination, then inspect the available paste options. A normal Command-V paste and a Paste Special operation can transfer different parts of the copied cells.

Decide what should cross into the destination

A copied cell can carry a formula, displayed value and formatting. Choose the appropriate paste option according to the task. For example, a static report may need the current values while a working calculation may need formulas. Read the dialog’s options instead of assuming Paste Special always means one fixed operation.

Inspect the destination before committing

Select the intended starting cell or range and check nearby data that could be overwritten. A pasted block may extend beyond the area you are currently looking at. When copying between workbooks, inspect the result carefully for changed references or unexpected presentation; a familiar-looking number alone does not prove the underlying result is correct.

Compare paste methods in a small copy

Use a disposable source cell containing a simple formula and distinctive formatting. Paste normally into one destination, then use an explicit Paste Special option in another. Inspect both the formula bar and appearance. This exercise teaches what the option actually transfers without risking a production workbook or relying on a remembered dialog position that may differ by version.
