Choose a panel from the symptom

An element in the wrong place suggests Inspector; a reported JavaScript exception suggests Console; a failed resource suggests Network. These tools examine different parts of a webpage. Opening the correct panel first gives the investigation a question, rather than leaving several tabs open without knowing what evidence to collect.

Keep the evidence safe to share

Request details and console messages can contain private URLs, account information or application data. Review a screenshot or export before sending it to support. A useful report can often describe the panel, error category and time without including authentication material. Do not paste unknown code into Console as part of a shortcut exercise.

Distinguish source from current page state

Page source and the Inspector are not interchangeable views of every modern application. A site can modify the document after loading, and requests can complete later. Use a harmless test page to open each panel and identify its role. A shortcut opening the tools does not itself diagnose a website or authorize changes to someone else’s system.
