Find text and links in a Firefox page on Mac

Command-F opens Firefox’s in-page search on Mac. Command-G and Command-Shift-G move between matches. A slash starts Quick Find and an apostrophe starts link-text Quick Find when those keys are not being typed into an editable field.

Start with an explicit search when focus is unclear

Command-F is the clearer starting point if you have been typing into a form or using an interactive web application. A punctuation key in a text field is input, not a universal browser command. Check whether a caret or focus outline is visible before trying the quick-search variants.

Use link search for navigation labels

On a long directory page, searching link text can be more useful than finding every occurrence of a common word in paragraphs. Search for a distinctive part of the label, inspect the highlighted result and confirm the destination before opening it. A match alone does not establish that the linked page is the one you need.

Account for content that is not loaded

An unopened expandable region or a separate document may not participate in the visible page’s search as expected. Reveal the relevant section or open the document, then try again. For practice, compare a phrase search with a link-label search on a simple article page and notice which results disappear when the search is restricted.
