Use VS Code Zen Mode and word wrap for different reading problems
Command-K then Z enters Zen Mode; Option-Z toggles word wrap. One changes workspace presentation, while the other changes how long lines are displayed.

Decide what is distracting
Zen Mode is useful when surrounding interface elements are taking attention away from a focused editing task. Word wrap is useful when long lines require horizontal scrolling. They address different problems, and changing the workspace presentation does not automatically make long lines easier to read.
Keep visual wrapping distinct from file edits
Toggling word wrap changes how a line appears in the editor; it does not necessarily insert newline characters into the file. Before changing formatting to solve a display problem, try the view control and inspect the underlying text. This matters when reviewing generated data or documents where line breaks have a specific meaning.
Know the exit before entering focus mode
Microsoft’s reference documents Escape twice as the Zen Mode exit. Practise entering and leaving on a harmless file, then decide which interface elements you still need for the task. A quieter view is useful only if you can still find diagnostics, navigation and the route back to the normal workspace.
