Documented Mac defaults; punctuation and function keys depend on keyboard layout and hardware.. User bindings, app versions, focused controls and installed extensions can change a command. Inspect the active app menu or its shortcut editor when a listed combination differs.
Review basis
Documentation reviewed 2026-11-03 by Codex — primary-documentation and editorial review; no hands-on runtime test. These bindings were not tested in a running app for this guide.

Read the diagnostic before changing code

The Problems view can combine messages from several tools, languages and files. Look at the source of the diagnostic and its location before editing. A highlighted line is a starting point for investigation, not necessarily the line that contains the underlying cause of the problem.

Navigate in a deliberate direction

Next and Previous help inspect a sequence of diagnostics without repeatedly searching the list. Confirm the active file after each jump, especially when the command moves across files. A warning can require a different response from an error, so do not turn the navigation sequence into an automatic deletion or suppression workflow.

Verify that the problem is resolved

After making a considered change, rerun the relevant check or wait for the responsible tool to update. A stale diagnostic list and a disappearing highlight are not interchangeable with a successful build or test. Function-key handling and keymap extensions can change how the documented navigation keys are entered.
