Identify whether you want another location or fresh content

Back and Forward move through visited locations in the tab. Reload requests the current page again. Use history navigation when you want to retrace a browsing path, and reload when the displayed location is correct but you need the page refreshed. The address and page title help distinguish those intentions.

Pause before refreshing a working form

Reloading can affect unsaved input or an in-progress website workflow. Read any warning the site presents, and do not repeatedly reload a page that is submitting a payment or another consequential operation. A browser shortcut changes how you navigate; it does not prove that a website completed its own transaction successfully.

Learn the return route on static pages

Visit two harmless pages in one tab, go back and forward, then reload the second page. Notice when Forward becomes available or unavailable. This gives you a simple way to recognise tab history separately from a website’s own internal navigation buttons or search controls.
