Fit several Preview images or inspect their actual size
Option-Command-9 fits all images in the window; Option-Command-0 shows them at actual size. These are view changes, not file resizing.

- Keyboard and customization
- Documented Mac defaults; punctuation and function keys depend on keyboard layout and hardware.. User bindings, app versions, focused controls and installed extensions can change a command. Inspect the active app menu or its shortcut editor when a listed combination differs.

Separate the image file from its display scale
An image can look small because it is being fitted into a window, not because its stored pixel dimensions changed. Conversely, actual-size viewing can make a large image extend beyond the visible area. Choose the view that answers your current question before considering an edit to the file itself.
Use consistent viewing across a set
When several images are open together, applying the same fitting or scale command makes comparison more predictable. A fitted view is useful for overall composition, while actual size helps inspect detail. Neither alone proves how the image will appear when printed or displayed on a device with different dimensions.
Return to an overview before choosing another image
After inspecting a detail at a larger scale, fit the images again so you can recognise which item is selected. Work with copies when practising any actual edits. The commands in this table change the view, but neighbouring editing commands in the same application may modify the image.
