Choose a view operation that matches your question

A filter decides which records appear, a sort orders records, and category expansion controls the amount of visible group detail. For an expense review, you may want to filter one type of purchase, sort by a date, or collapse groups after checking them. These are separate decisions. Decide what you need to see before triggering an existing table configuration.

Review the rules before applying them

The sorting shortcut applies the sorting rules already configured for the table. It does not invent an appropriate order for your data. Likewise, toggling filters changes whether configured filtering is active. Inspect the rules and headers first, especially when a table has been prepared by someone else. A row absent from the current view may be filtered out rather than deleted.

Compare the same sample through several views

Create a small disposable table with a few dates and categories. Configure a simple sort and filter through the interface, then use the shortcuts to compare the results. If categories are in use, select an intended group and collapse or expand it. Keep track of the total structure and the visible subset separately so you can explain why an item appears to move or disappear.
