Choose a fresh note or an existing starting point
For a meeting, begin with a blank note when its agenda is unrelated to earlier work. Duplicate a selected note when you deliberately want to reuse a checklist or document structure. Before changing the copy, give it an unmistakable title. This makes it easier to distinguish this week’s preparation from last week’s record when both appear in search.
Keep capture and organization as separate decisions
A Quick Note is useful when you need to record a thought while something else is on screen. A new folder serves a different purpose: it gives a collection of notes a place to live. Do not create folders for every small thought just because the shortcut is convenient. Choose an account and a sensible destination before building a larger reference collection.
Practice with an expendable template
Create a note called Packing template and give it three harmless items. Select the note, duplicate it, and rename the copy Weekend trip. Change only the copy, then inspect the original. Finally create a folder for these practice notes. You are checking which object is selected and where each new object appears, rather than relying on the shortcut alone to explain the result.
