Distinguish a pinned position from an inbox filter
Pinned-conversation shortcuts use Command with a number, while the documented inbox filters add Control. That extra modifier changes the task entirely. A pinned chat is a chosen destination; an unread filter is a set of conversations. Read the view heading after using either shortcut so you know whether you opened one discussion or changed which discussions are listed.
Do not give a person a permanent universal number
A pinned conversation’s shortcut depends on its current position. If you rearrange your pinned chats, revisit the mapping instead of assuming the same number still reaches the same person. The first unpinned conversation has its own documented shortcut. Treat these keys as navigation for your present inbox arrangement rather than instructions you can copy unchanged to another person’s Mac.
Try a filter round trip
Open the unread-conversation filter, inspect what is listed, then return to all conversations. Separately open a pinned chat by its current number and check its participants. Do these as two short exercises rather than combining them with message sending. If the list suddenly looks smaller after a shortcut, check whether a filter is active before deciding that conversations have disappeared.
