- Keyboard and customization
- Documented Mac defaults; punctuation and function keys depend on keyboard layout and hardware.. User bindings, app versions, focused controls and installed extensions can change a command. Inspect the active app menu or its shortcut editor when a listed combination differs.

Start with the result you need
Use Spotlight when the next step could be opening an app, locating a file or answering a broad query. Use Finder when you expect to inspect files and refine their search scope. The distinction is about the result interface you want, not about one combination being a universal replacement for every search field.
Check the search scope
A search within a Finder window may offer different locations or filters from a system-level search. Read those controls before assuming that a missing result means the file is gone. Searching the current folder, an entire Mac and the contents of one open document are separate tasks, even when their search boxes look similar.
Avoid overriding your launcher accidentally
A third-party launcher may already use Command-Space. If that combination opens something different, inspect the configured system and launcher shortcuts instead of repeatedly pressing it. Prefer one clear owner for a global search combination. Customising an app-specific search does not necessarily replace an operating-system shortcut that is registered globally.
