Use the destination’s meaning

Computer is a starting point for browsing available storage, Network is for network locations, and Utilities contains installed system tools. Choose the destination that fits your purpose rather than memorising an unexplained row of letters. These are Finder navigation actions; they do not run a utility or connect to a server by themselves.

Inspect before opening tools

Arriving in Utilities does not mean that a particular tool is appropriate for the problem you are solving. Some tools can make consequential system changes. Read the item’s name and purpose before launching it, and distinguish a keyboard navigation shortcut from permission to perform whatever the tool can do.

Keep a return path

After visiting a system location, note the window’s path or use Finder’s back navigation to return to the previous folder. Practise the jump-and-return sequence without changing files. This makes the shortcuts useful for a brief detour while keeping the original task and folder context easy to recover.
