Choose a destination rather than walking the hierarchy
A direct folder command is useful when you know the destination’s role but not your current location. Start in Finder, choose the folder shortcut and check the displayed contents before opening or moving anything. A folder called Downloads in another app is not necessarily the same Finder destination.
Keep location and selection separate
After arriving, Finder may retain or establish a selection. A second action such as opening, copying or deleting applies to selected items rather than to the location name. Take a moment to confirm the selection before continuing a file-management sequence, especially when you came from a different window.
Build a short round trip
Use a harmless Finder window to visit Home, Desktop and Downloads, then return to the starting location using the navigation controls. Practise the destination names as well as the keys. That association is more useful than memorising three unexplained letter combinations and hoping the right folder appears.
