Practise following code from a call to its definition
Choose one symbol in a small sample project. Find its definition, answer one question, then return to the original call.

Choose a small project and a question
Use a sample with a few functions and no secrets or production dependencies. VS Code provides code-navigation features, but they are most useful when you know what you want to learn.
Pick one call and ask what it expects or returns. Note the original file and surrounding context before moving. If language tooling cannot resolve the sample, inspect the file structure instead of treating the unavailable definition command as a failed exercise.
Visit the definition and return
- Open or inspect the definition using the editor’s available navigation view. Read enough surrounding code to answer your question, then return and explain the result in your own words.
- If the definition calls another helper, decide whether that second visit is needed. You can draw an arrow in your note to record the relationship. Keep editing out of the first pass so navigation and modification remain separate. Following the right relationship matters more than reaching the deepest dependency.
Record what the tools cannot establish
A symbol may have multiple definitions, use generated code or depend on project configuration. Record those limits when the navigation result is incomplete instead of inventing certainty.
Any later code change still needs its own diff review and appropriate check. This is an optional reading exercise, not a product feature or a guarantee that the editor understands every project. Finish with one useful explanation and a known starting point, rather than a long list of opened files.
